Primary school De Kikker, originally designed by Liesbeth van der Pol of <a href="https://dokarchitecten.nl/">DOK architects</a>, will undergo a complete metamorphosis in the summer of 2024. The old bright-green plating, which needed to be replaced, is being replaced by colourful, custom solar panels from Solarix. This renovation is an initiative of the <a href="https://www.amsterdam.nl/">Municipality of Amsterdam</a>, which approached Dok Architects and Solarix to develop a new suitable colouring and custom panels.

Kernbouw started the renovation work in winter 2023-24. After which the new solar panels will be installed on the facade by Royal Kuijper&#039;s installation in the summer of 2024.

Solarix was asked by DOK Architects to design a green solar panel that would give the facade of the primary school a fresh new energy-producing facade. Since there is no bright green in the Solarix collections, we entered into a tailor-made design process with the client and architect. The result is a striking and colourful facade, consisting of solar panels in various green and yellow shades and fitted with textured glass. This new facade gives the primary school a cheerful, sparkling appearance that fits perfectly with the character of the school and at the same time makes optimal use of solar energy.The renovation will replace a total of 1,444 m² of facade panels, including 71 m² of dummy panels.

Making public buildings future-proof with facade solar panels is of great importance. The Municipality of Amsterdam is taking a pioneering role in this with the renovation of primary school De Kikker. The facade of the Bredeschool located in Osdorp needs to be replaced and is being redeveloped with a lively and energy-generating facade. A custom coloring and design has been developed that builds on the old facade but is also fresh and playful!

Villa Lichtenberg is designed as a sustainable home that is low in energy and maintenance with a combination of unique qualities. The villa is located in a rolling green landscape with a double living floor downstairs, a bedroom floor above and a roof structure.Solarix was asked to work with <a href="https://wvwa.nl/">architect Willem van Winsen</a> and the clients to design the facade of the bedroom floor as an energy-generating facade. The appearance and distribution of the facade panels was important, without the association with standard solar panels. The result is a rhythmic pattern of various custom-made coloured design solar panels in the facades.

The facade consists of different sizes of solar panels, creating a varied image. The panels themselves have a mesh pattern of moss green and sand, which gives an almost traditional look. The energy-generating facade produces sufficient energy to meet the daily energy demand of the home, including the heat pump and the electric car.

Solarix was asked by the architect and client to help design the facade early in the project. Ultimately, Solarix was commissioned by the client to take care of the realization of the facade. The Butterflyeffect

A beautifully designed, low-energy and maintained villa with a complete energy-generating facade. The facade is designed in a rhythmic pattern of various custom-made coloured solar panels in a combination of moss and sand tones.

Solarix is proud of the innovative solar facade that significantly contributes to the climate adaptation of the new dsm-firmenich headquarters in Maastricht. This project, developed by <a href="https://edge.tech/">EDGE</a> and <a href="https://www.3wrealestate.nl/">3W real estate</a>, and realized in collaboration with <a href="https://www.broekbakema.nl/">Broekbakema</a>, <a href="https://www.bam.com/en">BAM</a>, and<a href="https://ldsenergy.nl/"> LDS energy</a>, marks a milestone in sustainable construction and serves as a prime example of how buildings can become Paris-proof. The new dsm-firmenich headquarters emerged from the renovation and expansion of the historic Ambachtsschool and Euroscoop Cinema, creating a blend of heritage and modern sustainability.

The innovative Solarix solar facade, integrated into the new construction section of the building, comprises 521 m² of panels, of which 465 m² are active and 56 m² are dummies. With an expected annual yield of 36,000 kWh and an estimated CO2 reduction of 26,772 kg per year, the facade makes a significant contribution to the sustainability of the headquarters. Solarix closely collaborated with Broekbakema to develop special panels that perfectly match the building’s design. These panels, in a blend of grey tones from the Dot collection, are subtly integrated into the facade, creating a harmonious whole with the concrete and glass elements.

The new dsm-firmenich headquarters is the first national monument in the Netherlands to achieve Paris-proof status, meaning it meets the climate requirements of the Paris Agreement. The building features rooftop solar panels, excellent insulation, efficient HVAC systems, smart lighting, and water-saving measures. This holistic approach minimizes long-term environmental impacts and resulted in the new construction section achieving the highest sustainability certification, BREEAM Outstanding. This certification was partly achieved because the Solarix facade solar panels received a Category 1 classification in the National Environmental Database for this project. Solar facade contributes to Paris-proof status of new dsm-firmenich headquarters in Maastricht. This project, developed by Edge and 3W Real Estate, and realized in collaboration with Broekbakema, BAM, and LDS Energy, marks a milestone in sustainable construction and is a prime example of how buildings can be made Paris-proof.

Rotterdam boasts a new unique city attraction: Rif010, a surf spot in an old canal in the heart of the city. Rotterdammers will soon be able to enjoy a 1.5 meter high artificial river wave lasting 14 seconds.27m2 of silver-gray solar panels have been installed on the roof of the beautiful Rif010 building. Stylish silver-grey solar panels on Rif010, the new surf hotspot in Rotterdam.

For this project, the roof panels are coloured in a silver-grey shade from our metallic collection.

Rotterdam has a new city attraction: Rif010, a surf spot in an old canal with a 1.5-meter high artificial wave. The roof of Rif010 features 27m² of silver-grey solar panels, perfectly blending with the surroundings and contributing to minimal environmental impact.

Sustainability, climate adaptation and energy saving are important spearheads for the redevelopment of the former data center in De Kwekerij. Less waste and a rapid transformation through maximum reuse of the existing concrete, elevator, stair constructions and steel facade panels. The new materials used in the facade are mainly black aesthetic solar panels. In this way, a sustainable second skin is placed around the building, giving the building a sturdy, robust appearance and also acting as an energy plant.

The facade design was developed in collaboration with <a href="https://www.morstudio.nl/">MOR Studio</a> in one of our standard sizes. Dummy panels have been used for the different panel sizes. A black panel was chosen that is somewhere between matte and glossy, with the dummy panels having the same appearance. The facade is mounted on the existing steelwork, which has been expanded in some places to allow the horizontal beams to be attached. With this building, we show that we can also create beautiful facade solution with black facade solar panels.

Solarix was asked by pv installer <a href="https://www.wattco.com/">Wattco</a> and contractor <a href="https://vm-d.nl/">van Mierlo Dinkq</a> to think about the solar facade during the engineering. In collaboration with MOR Studio, a layout of the facade was designed based on our standard size of 600 x 1200 mm. MOR then made a choice from the various options and finishes for the panels. This was a great step towards an affordable, aesthetic and energy-generating facade. Loft Office is a striking example of sustainable innovation and aesthetic renewal. The building, originally designed by VMX Architects in 2008, will undergo a renovation and upgrade in 2024, with an extra floor to crown the building. The existing wooden rear facade needed to be replaced, which offered an excellent opportunity for the owners, Stonemedia, to opt for a fully sustainable facade with solar panels.

VMX Architects have seized this opportunity with both hands and realized a visionary design. The new facade, consisting of stylish matte black solar panels, not only ensures optimal energy yield, but also enhances the aesthetics of the building. The addition of the extra floor at the front and the sustainable solar facade at the rear are integrated in a beautiful rhythm, which contributes to a coherent and modern appearance of the building.

The sustainable <a href="https://pharoswork.com/">Pharos</a> business complex next to Hoofddorp CS station had very sustainable ambitions for redevelopment. Pharos now shows with its energy-producing, smart and beautiful facade from Solarix that the facade of the future has now been realized!Pharos is an office building from 2003. The goal of clients Cairn (now <a href="https://www.schroders.com/nl-nl/nl/professionele/">Schroder Capital</a>) is to transform the building into the healthiest working community in Europe in which circularity and energy supply are central. Part of the building has been renovated, but a new part has also been added. One of the objectives was the realization of an energy-generating facade.In collaboration with <a href="https://cube-architecten.nl/">Cube architects</a>, Solarix has proposed a facade that connects, softens and makes the building more sustainable.

The Solarix solar panels are located in the two golden bands that connect the different building parts. The coloured solar panels are included in aluminium composite carrier elements that can be applied to the various building components. There is a gradient in the colour of the panel so that a dynamic effect is created over the building.

The office building of engineering firm <a href="https://www.kuijpers.nl/">Kuijpers</a> has a scoop. This is the first building in the world where Solar Design has been applied to the facade. Kuijpers has been an ambassador for this application from the start. By thinking from a design perspective, the redevelopment made it possible to combine the generation of sustainable energy with the creation of a new identity for the building. In the dark, the building turns into an art object; the integrated LED lighting changes colour with the seasons.

De zonnegevel van Kuijpers is ontworpen als nieuwe huid voor het gebouw, waarbij alle aansluitingen en hoekdetails zorgvuldig zijn meegenomen. De gekleurde zonnepanelen zijn geïntegreerd in diverse aluminium composiet elementen, waardoor er een schuinte in de panelen kon worden gecreëerd. Door de diverse tinten in kleur is er een levendige warme gevel ontstaan. Want to make a building more sustainable in a beautiful way? That&#039;s possible! On behalf of the <a href="https://www.middelburg.nl/">Municipality of Middelburg</a>, Solarix has made the <a href="https://www.zeelandtheaters.nl/theaters/schouwburg-middelburg/">city theatre</a> in the historic city more sustainable. With this project, the municipality wants to show that it is also possible to generate sustainable energy in an architecturally valuable building in a historic environment.During the design process, Solarix took the existing architecture as a starting point. The colours in the brickwork and window frames and the function and appearance of the building were examined. The vertically placed panels therefore decorate both sides of the main entrance of the Theatre, like wings.

The special matte design of the Solarix Line collection has an appearance that matches the existing brickwork and refers to stage curtains. The design solar panel provides a dynamic facade and extra high-energy yield.

The contract for the solar facade was awarded by the Municipality of Middelburg through a tender won by Solarix. Want to make it more sustainable in a beautiful way? That's possible! On behalf of the municipality of Middelburg, Solarix is making the city theatre in the historic city more sustainable with solar panels on the facade.

In 2021, Solarix received the PROVADA Proptech Award from Daan van der Vorm. A year later, the first collaboration has become a reality with the integration of designer solar panels in the modular sustainable living solution: the <a href="https://buurtboost.nl/">BuurtBoost</a> Optopper.In February 2022, BuurtBoost joined forces with <a href="https://www.burtonhamfelt.nl/">BurtonHamfelt Urban Architecture</a>, <a href="https://www.datbouwsystemen.nl/">DAT Bouwsystemen</a>, Smart2Prefab, <a href="https://www.theurbanjungleproject.com/">The Urban Jungle Project</a> and Solarix. In three months they developed a complete prototype, suitable for topping up existing real estate.

The Solarix solar panels are incorporated into the facade of the Optopper, which means that the small house generates enough energy to be energy neutral. Additional solar panels or a green roof can be placed on the roofs. The panels are part of a sloping overhang where the corner panels are dummies with the same appearance. The Solarix panels from the gray Dot collection have a chic look and match the wood and frames perfectly.Standard dimensions were used in this project, which suits the prefabricated houses. An affordable sustainable home has been developed.

Client Vorm has brought together several parties to devise and develop a prefab concept that can ultimately be scaled up affordably. Solarix supplies the panels and the mounting system in a standard version so that they can always be properly integrated within the Optopper concept. The world of waste processing is changing. Sustainability and circular thinking are important themes in the industry and for client <a href="https://www.vanhappencontainers.nl/">Van Happen</a>. Their request was a facade that also radiates these values; a facade that shows Van Happen&#039;s activities and at the same time generates energy.The arrows in this design visualize the collection and sorting of waste by Van Happen. The arrows consist of coloured and even lightweight, circular solar panels. The project thus serves as an example of how to make industrial estates more sustainable in an attractive way.

In this project, a combination of regular glass/glass solar panels in colour with an innovative circular lightweight solar panel was chosen. Two shades of gray have been applied in an enlarged dot that match the aesthetic requirements for this area. A solar film has been developed and tested for the circular Solarix / Solarge solar panels with the same pattern in green. A Terra and ochre panels have been added at the entrance. Another challenge in the project was the mounting system, as the substrate was a corrugated sheet sandwich panel, and we were dealing with 2 types of panels. We were able to solve this with an adjustment to our mounting system. This assignment has stimulated Solarix to think further about our facade solar panels and to take a new step in our pursuit of a circular product.

Solarix and Van Happen took the initiative for this special project. The research and development processes have been made possible, among other things, by the subsidy <a href="https://www.brabantgeeftenergie.nl/">Brabant Gives Energy</a> from the Province of North Brabant. To promote Van Happen's core values, Solarix developed an eye-catching facade with circular coloured solar panels and mounting system, using the designs of the Dot collection as a starting point.

In Helmond, the ambition is to make Brainport Smart District the smartest district in the world. Various challenges were issued to select the best parties to achieve this. In the third challenge, Solarix was one of the innovative parties that were chosen to develop a plan on one of the plots.Solarix forms a consortium with <a href="https://cravastgoed.nl/">CRA Vastgoed</a>, <a href="https://cube-architecten.nl/">Cube architecten</a> and <a href="https://www.renekuiken.nl/">Kuiken Urbanism</a> and is developing a &#039;Sun Smart Living&#039; concept. This consists of 3 different housing blocks that are parametrically designed and positioned so that optimal energy can be generated with the facades.The use of the coloured Solarix solar panels in the facades is an important part of the total architectural design, but also of the total energy concept.The aim is to even make the homes energy-producing, with the energy also being stored in a SolarEis system. In addition, the pre-investment required by setting up a small energy cooperative for the collective energy supply has also been considered.In addition to the energy concept, the plans also pay a lot of attention to sustainable and circular use of materials, green areas and the value of a social community.The first homes are currently being developed and Sun Smart Living is awaiting a plot allocation.

Colour and pattern for the solar panels were important in the Brainport Smart Living project. The Solarix solar panels are the leading facade material within the project. Together with the architect, green colour tones and different patterns were chosen, for a lively, but also subtle image. The design of panels is also very nicely coordinated with the other materials in the plan, such as the wooden cladding and window frames.

In addition to the consortium for design and realization consisting of <a href="https://cravastgoed.nl/">CRA Vastgoed</a>, <a href="https://cube-architecten.nl/">Cube architecten</a> and <a href="https://www.renekuiken.nl/">Kuiken Urbanism</a> and Solarix, Ridge and <a href="https://www.hve-nl.com/">HVE</a> are involved in the energy concept. The <a href="https://vbgroep.nl/">VB groep</a> will take care of the implementation.

<a href="https://hommersensolar.nl/">Hommersen Solar</a> is an installer of solar panels and built their own sustainable business hall with office in Zwaag in 2023. In addition to the standard solar panels on the roof, the company also wanted to show that solar panels on the facade are also possible. Above the entrance, they have included a number of large coloured facade solar panels in the colour ocker. The eye-catcher of the building, but also a vision of the future of solar.

Hommersen Solar wanted a nice, cheerful color for the facade solar panels. They were enthusiastic about one of the designs in a large dot that we had previously used in a project for Rijkswaterstaat. Solarix developed the solar panels and detailing and soon later delivered the colored solar panels with mounting system to the customer.

After Hommersen Solar saw the possibilities of Solarix solar panels at a trade fair, they were immediately contacted to see what was possible for their new business premises. Located along the A13, <a href="https://www.destaaldelft.nl/">De Staal</a> will become the new entrance to Delft. This iconic residential tower designed by du Croq &amp; van Zutphen architects is the center of a special neighbourhood being built on the east side of Delft by real estate developer <a href="https://novaform.nl/projecten/de-staal-delft">NovaForm</a>.The residential tower is divided into 3 parts, for which a collaboration has been entered into with three other innovative architectural firms. Under the supervision of <a href="https://ducroqvanzutphen.nl/">duCroq &amp; van Zutphen</a>, <a href="https://aaan.nl/">Architectural studio AAAN</a>, <a href="https://studiorap.nl/">Studio RAP</a> and <a href="https://cube-architecten.nl/">CUBE architects</a> each designed part of the residential tower.Cube Architects has created the architectural design for the middle part of De Staal. In this block, design is combined with the integration of blue solar panels from Solarix, so that the facades of this block will generate energy for the residents in the tower. In the facade design, inspired by a Delft blue vase, Solar Design panels are integrated into the bent facade panels.

Solarix has developed the design for the coloured solar panels in standard dimensions with a blue design from the line collection in reference to the Delft colour palette. The hand-drawn lines at different scale levels and blue and white colour combinations are a direct reference to the craft known in Delft pottery. The solar panels are integrated into the bent facade elements, which as a whole provide a dynamic and refined image that provides a different image from different angles.

Solarix has an intensive collaboration with Cube architects on behalf of Novaform for this project. In the heart of Amsterdam, the empty Hudson&#039;s Bay department store has been converted into the new headquarters of online payment platform <a href="https://www.adyen.com/">Adyen</a>. As part of the sustainability of this monumental building, Solarix provides specially designed solar panels in a matte black colour.Adyen is having the two vacant new-build buildings, on the Rokin and the monumental Vleeshal behind it, redeveloped in collaboration with contractor <a href="https://www.vanwijnen.nl/">Van Wijnen</a>, interior design firm <a href="https://tank.nl/">Tank</a> and architectural firm <a href="https://rijnboutt.nl/">Rijnboutt</a>, project organization <a href="https://www.sgs.nl/">SGS</a>, real estate manager <a href="https://www.cbre.nl/">CBRE</a> and technical service provider <a href="https://www.engie.nl/">ENGIE</a>.

The redevelopment of the monumental building focuses on Adyen&#039;s sustainable and circular vision, which fits in well with Solarix&#039;s vision to accelerate the energy transition.For example, one of Adyen&#039;s most important wishes is to make maximum use of the materials already present. According to branch director Wesly Verhaert, Adyen &quot;goes for the BREEAM Very Good to Excellent certificate, a quality label for minimal environmental impact during construction and the subsequent operational phase.&quot;In addition to reusing materials, Adyen also looked for the possibility of generating energy with one of the three new office buildings. Roy Leegwater, project leader at ENGIE Services West, says: “By installing solar panels and designing the restaurant kitchen differently, Rokin 49 and the Vleeshal will become gas-free buildings.”However, given the monumental status of the buildings, such as the old Vleeshal, regular roof solar panels are not an option. Architect Rijnboutt and client ENGIE therefore opted for an aesthetic solution with the design solar panels from Solarix.

Circular construction

It made sense to equip one of the sloping roofs of the Vleeshal with solar panels. Partly due to its location in the centre of Amsterdam and the associated aesthetic requirements, it was important that the solar panels fit into the image of the monumental interior and did not shine too much. The dimensions of the solar panels also had to match the existing rhythm of the building. Solarix, together with the architect, looked for a matte black colour that most closely matches the existing roof panels and for attractive dimensions. In addition, a mounting system was used suitable for glass/glass panels without a frame. The custom-made aesthetic solar panels were combined with an attractive, virtually invisible mounting system.

Solarix worked with the architect to find a matte black color that most closely matches the existing roof tiles. Various shades of gray were developed in this process to achieve the right match. As an additional addition, it was decided to equip the solar panels with frosted glass for minimal reflection and light reflection.

In the context of the Design Challenge &#039;Our Energy Our Landscape&#039;, Solarix, together with <a href="https://venhoevencs.nl/">VenhoevenCS</a> and <a href="https://www.dsla.nl/">DS Landscape Architects</a>, developed a surprising proposal: &#039;The Butterfly Effect&#039;, which focuses on generating clean energy in an inventive and beautiful way. In addition, it is combined with restoring connections in nature and limiting noise pollution.

The Design Challenge is organized by <a href="https://www.kunstlocbrabant.nl/kennis-inspiratie/design-challenge-onze-energie-ons-landschap-10872">Kunstloc Brabant</a>, <a href="https://www.staatsbosbeheer.nl/">Staatsbosbeheer</a> and <a href="https://www.hetgroenewoud.com/">Het Groene Woud</a> and responds to the fact that sustainability is playing an increasingly important role in our Western society. Solarix therefore designed &#039;The Butterfly Effect&#039; together with the multidisciplinary team of VenHoevenCS and DS Landscape architects.The design is in fact an ultra-light web over the highway, but is not only designed for the assignment location on the A67 near the Strabrechtse heath; it can also be applied to infrastructure worldwide. The design strengthens local ecosystems on a small scale and also has an impact on a large-scale approach to climate change and biodiversity loss. In fact, this principle can be applied to any road network.

Together with VenhoevenCS and DS Landschapsarchitecten, we have used our joint expertise, drive and creativity to create a sustainable and achievable sustainable future. It is very important to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss to include nature inclusivity, because &#039;every little thing counts&#039;.Small creatures like insects are essential in nature. Did you know that 85% of our food depends on their pollination? A span over the highway at the height of the treetops contributes to a safe crossing for these small creatures. In this way, we restore important connections in nature in our design.

The ‘little animals’ as a starting point

What makes our hearts beat even faster is the fact that the span over the road is an enormous surface from which clean energy can be generated, exactly in line with Solarix&#039;s sustainability vision. The lightweight honeycomb web can be filled with materials that generate solar energy. It is also designed to be modular, so it can grow and evolve with technical innovations. By making double use of the space above the road, less landscape is lost.No solar panel fields that cause biodiversity loss, but a &#039;web over the road&#039; that contributes to natural connections and the generation of clean energy.

'Two birds with one stone'

To ensure that the natural connection remains central to the design, simple but effective sound insulation has also been chosen. The designed span not only ensures that solar energy is generated, but also ensures that nitrogen and particulate matter end up in the soil. This enriches the soil along the road and allows trees to grow. Such a large strip of forest reduces noise in the nature reserve behind it. In other words: a natural solution as a sound barrier.

As part of the Design Challenge 'Our Energy Our Landscape', Solarix, together with VenhoevenCS and DS Landscape Architects, presented 'The Butterfly Effect', which focuses on generating clean energy above the highway in an inventive and beautiful way.
